Do you want to know God’s will for your life—but are you in the right posture to listen? Psalm 25 gives us three practices that form a teachable heart.
Many people sincerely want to know God’s will. They ask for direction, pray for answers, and look for confirmation. Yet Psalm 25 reminds us that spiritual guidance is not only about receiving information from God. It is also about becoming the kind of person who is able to hear, trust, and obey Him.
David prays, “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.” That prayer is simple, but it reveals a humble heart. He does not come to God as someone who already knows the way and only needs divine approval. He comes as a learner. Spiritual sensitivity begins when we stop treating God as an assistant to our plans and begin receiving Him as Lord over our steps.
1. Trust God before you understand everything
David says, “In you I trust.” Trust comes before clarity. Many times we want God to explain the entire path before we take the next step, but faith often grows through obedience with limited visibility. A sensitive heart does not demand control before it follows. It learns to rest in the character of God even when the details are still unfolding.
2. Ask God to teach you, not only to help you
There is a difference between asking God to solve a problem and asking God to shape a life. David’s prayer is not only, “Lord, fix this.” It is, “Lord, teach me.” That posture changes everything. We begin to see Scripture, prayer, correction, and waiting as part of God’s formation in us. The goal is not merely to get answers; it is to become wise.
3. Walk in humility and repentance
Psalm 25 connects guidance with humility. God guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way. Pride makes us defensive. Humility makes us teachable. When we confess sin, release self-sufficiency, and admit our need for grace, our hearts become softer toward God’s voice.
Spiritual sensitivity is not a mystical technique. It is a surrendered life. It is formed through trust, teachability, and humility before the Lord. The more our hearts are yielded to God, the more we learn to recognize His ways.
